In 1968 Bertie and Jackie Woolf joined Argen, a small business on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa with a focus on refining x-ray films and producing precious metals for jewelry. Their son, Anton Woolf, started spending time in the company at just six years old. 

"I used to race other co-workers stamping out earring loops," said Woolf. "I was ten-years-old when my family moved to the U.S. in 1987, and I saw how hard my parents worked to start the company over from scratch and build the business globally. They decided to focus the business exclusively on dental alloys because they felt that technicians in the dental laboratory were good, honest, hard-working people. In retrospect, it was the right decision."
